Our Tailored Safari Experience

Day One

Fly-in to Windhoek by your own arrangement. We pick you up at the airport and provide a short transfer to Windhoek, the capital of Namibia.

Day Two

We fly to Ongava on the southern shoulder of Etosha National Park. We settle in at Ongava Lodge with its luxurious rock lodges, swimming pool and other amenities. An afternoon safari takes you  close to the wildlife with fabulous photo opportunities, By the lodge there is also an underground photo hide by a waterhole.

Meals: Fully inclusive.

 

Day Three

Morning safari in Ongava game reserve. Close encounters with lions or a leopard will quicken your pulse, and a gathering of elephants at a waterhole will widen your eyes.

Covering over 323 km2, Ongava is a true mirror of the Namibian bush..

The thriving ecosystem is home to more than 300 species of mammal, over 340 bird species, and an abundance of amphibians and reptiles.

Midday, you can relax poolside after a tasty lunch.

In the afternoon we again hit the bush with new animal adventures, before we head back to lodge in the evening for dinner and relaxation.

Day Four

Depart after breakfast in a 4×4 transfer vehicle for the Etosha National Park – offering an even more desert like landscape, home to a wide variety of animals.

Such as lion, elephant, leopard, giraffe, cheetah, hyena, springbok, two kinds of zebra, eland and many more – easy to spot by large waterholes in the dry landscape.

We enjoy our lunch at the famous Okaukuejo Rest Camp with its abundance of animals. We travel on a road off the tourist track, exploring the western sections of Etosha. In the afternoon we exit the Park at Galton Gate, and enter the wild Hobatere Conservancy.

Meals: Full board including a sundowner drink overlooking the water hole.

 

Day Five

Depart after breakfast and travel through spectacular landscapes into the Kunene Province  past Otjokavare, Ondjombojomakongo, and Otjerunda.

Our destination is Opuwo Country Lodge on the top of a hill, with spectacular views from the pool edge over Kaokoland – the land of the Himba people.

Meals: Dinner. Breakfast & Lunch the next day.

 

Day Six

Morning at leisure. Visit the city of Opuwo or relax by the scenic pool.

Depart after lunch. Our route takes us on gravel roads through dry riverbeds before we arrive at the Himba village of Ongongo, that rarely has visitors from abroad.

Now you are up for an experience few other tourists get to experience.

We greet Chief Veimba Muharukua and introduce ourselves. Our mobile tented camp is transferred to Ongongo and is once again welcoming us with sundowner drinks and hot showers.

The evening is spent in conversation with the friendly and hospitable Himbas of the village around their campfires. Unforgettable experience under the stars.

Day Seven

After breakfast in the camp, we explore the Ongongo vicinity where a family of 9 elephants resides in the forest and we most likely encounter other wild animals.

In the afternoon, we visit the Ongongo primary school and take part in the daily village life – and perhaps watch a soccer game at the school’s sports grounds. The Himba ladies proudly perform their traditional dance.

Day Eight

Depart after breakfast. A day full of adventurous sightseeing, as our 4×4 vehicle follow the Hoaruseb river deeper into the vast Ongongo Conservancy with its spectacular mountains and valleys.

You will hear the stories on how the Himba – and lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, giraffe, zebra and the majestic Kudu antelope has adapted to survive in harmony in this environment.

We have a pit stop at “Willys bar and minimarket” virtually in the middle of nowhere, as if taken out of a movie.

We finally arrive at Okarumbu, also called elephant valley, where our mobile tented camp is already in place.

Welcome drinks have never tasted so good. Hot showers and dinner under the stars.

Day Nine

Depart after breakfast to the nearby Himba mine where Red Ocre has been collected for generations. This is what Himba girls use for their spectacular coiffures and a visit to the cave will get full details of this.

Then to the village of Sesfontein where we will visit Fort Sesfontein Lodge for lunch.

The Germans built the fort in 1896. It served as a control base for poaching, smuggling of weapons and the cattle plague. Today it is a lodge with pool and restaurant.

From Sesfontein, our journey continues to Warmequelle, where we can take a cool dip in spectacular natural springs.

We then travel through areas with groups of desert lions, via the Anabeb Conservancy and Palmwag Concession. Suddenly a luxury oasis comes to sight. The Palmwag Lodge. Where rhinos and elephants roam freely.

Day Ten

At sunrise, we leave to join the rangers of ‘Save the Rhino Trust (SRT)’ to track Black Rhino on foot in a barren, red and Mars-like mountain landscape!

SRT works tirelessly to protect this last, free-roaming population of black rhinos in the world.

Covering an area of 25,000 km2, SRT’s trackers come from local communities and possess a deep knowledge of rhinos and their surroundings.

We then descend into the valleys of the dry Huab river in search of the majestic desert elephants.

And to round the day off, our mobile tented camp will be waiting for us under huge Ana trees in the Huab wilderness. Our last evening around the campfire watching as the huge grey bodies of these wild giants glide soundlessly past our camp in search of much needed water.

Day Eleven

Breakfast in the wild.

We leave the Huab river and its Elephants with heavy hearts – this is Namibia at its best.

The country side changes as we drive via the towns of Khorixas, Outjo and Otjiwarongo for our grand finale – the high end Otjiwa Game Farm.

Their newest section with five cottages built on a top of a hill is the ideal place to unwind in luxurious surroundings and reflect on a fantastic journey.

Day Twelve

Join game drives in areas with cheetahs and leopards. Or just relax at the spa or sun bathe at the swimming pool.

Luxury minibus 4 hours transfer to Windhoek. Shopping opportunities.
